These are students who have successfully enrolled in the program after both a written and oral assessment. They will either undertake the course full time for two years, part-time over four years or through a combination over three years.
These are students who have successfully completed the course, researched and written approximately 1000 fiqhi responses on most topics of everyday concern for Muslims, and passed the exams. They have yet to submit their final thesis, after which they will be granted the Ifta’ Research Fellowship. While students have undergone training to answer most questions related to everyday matters, they are encouraged to specialise in one or more fields and select a research topic for their thesis accordingly.
Specialisation: Citizenship, Integration, and Political Issues
Specialisation: Fiqh of Women
The students who have successfully completed the course and submitted their final thesis qualify as Ifta’ Research Fellows, but not yet Muftis. They go into the field and continue to answer questions for the public and through Whitethread Fatwa Centre
Specialisation: Islamic Bioethics (Medical Ethics and Medicine)
Specialisation: Islamic Trade, Commerce and Finance
The Whitethread Institute requires 3 additional years of training and practice in the field along with approval by a panel of senior muftis for an Ifta’ Research Fellow to qualify as a Mufti (Juris-Consult). We expect the first fellows to qualify in late 2022, Insha Allah.
